To all Golf Clubs along the Wild Atlantic Way

The 2018 Wild Atlantic Way Golf Championship will be hosted by Carne Golf Links, Belmullet, Co. Mayo, and will be in partnership with The Talbot Hotel and The Broadhaven Bay Hotel, Belmullet. The Dates for the 2018 Event are Champions Cup on Sunday 4th November, and Visitors Open Day on Saturday 3rd. All Club Captains and Lady Captains along the Wild Atlantic Way are hereby invited by the Captain and Lady Captain of Belmullet GC, Fergus Scanlon and Assumpta Guilfoyle, to enter one Official Team of four club members in this years Champions Cup Day on Sunday 4th, and any number of Teams in the Visitors Open Day section on Saturday 3rd.  There will also be a Visitors Competition on Sunday 4th open to teams of four for all Wild Atlantic Way Golfers not playing in the main Cup Competition. 

All golfers from anywhere, including official Cup Teams entered for Sunday 4th, are invited to take part in the Visitors Open Day on Saturday 3rd. All Visitor Day players that wish to stay on for Sunday night can also avail of a Special Dinner, Bed & Breakfast deal, and in doing so will be entitled to participate in a special Visitors section of the Champions Cup Day’s competition on Sunday 4th. All teams entered in the Champions Cup or Visitors Day are entitled to a complimentary practice round on Friday 2nd. This year’s Competitions will be a mixed Four Person Team Scramble format on Sunday (Champions Cup Day) and a Singles Stableford for both Ladies and Gents on Saturday (Visitors Day).

Many of you WAW Golf Clubs supported this fantastic fun event in the previous three years when it was held at Connemara & Carne Golf Links, which we again thank you for. Therefore we would hope you will continue to do so this year, and we will look forward to welcoming you all back at Carne Golf Links and the Talbot Hotel or Broadhaven Bay Hotel in November. To any Clubs that didn’t get the opportunity to participate in previous years we would ask you to please consider supporting this years Championship, and in doing so will support all the other Golf Clubs along the Wild Atlantic Way, and will help to make the 2018 Championship the best ever.

If you are interested but unsure that your Club team, or Visitors team, can definitely participate in the Championship than there is an Option to mark the Registration as Provisional instead of Confirmed. We would encourage everyone remotely interested to at least do this so as to give us some idea of numbers, and also so that we may keep you apprised of any updates over the coming months.

Official Champions Cup Club teams should enter for one or both days by using the ‘Cup Teams Registration’ button. Non Official Club or Visitor teams should should enter for one or both days by using the ‘Visitor Teams Registration ‘ button.

 

Champions Cup Day and Visitors Day price is €99 per person per day and includes the following: 

  • Entry into the Wild Atlantic Way Champions Cup on Sunday, or Visitors Day on Saturday
  • Accommodation (sharing) provided by the superb Talbot Hotel or Broadaven Bay Hotel, Belmullet. Complimentary Practice round of golf on Friday 2nd for both Champions Cup and Visitors Teams
  • Complimentary Green Fee Voucher for return visit to Carne Golf Links for Champions Cup Teams only
  • Fantastic prizes for First to Fifth Nett scores on Champions Cup Day, and First to Third, and Gross, on Visitors Day for both Ladies and Gents
  • Magnificent Gala Dinner on Sunday night following Reception and Presentation of prizes for both days and of course the Champions Cup to the 2018 winners
  • Optional Friday, Saturday and Sunday night Dinner, Bed & Breakfast package incl. both Competitions & practice round for €273 pps

All accommodation to be provided in the Talbot Hotel, Belmullet. Once fully booked, remaining guests will be accommodated at the Broadhaven Bay Hotel. A complimentary shuttle bus will be available over the weekend. Single room supplement of €20 per night applies.  If staying more than one night, only one night single room supplement applies (subject to availability). Rates for single nights are as follows.  Friday 2nd Nov €75.00, Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th Nov  €99.00  pps.

2018 Wild Atlantic Way Championship Conditions
  1. The Event is called “The Wild Atlantic Way Golf Championship”, and is being held annually in perpetuity, having started in 2015.
  2. The Perpetual Cup, kindly donated by Mr. Gerry Maguire – Chairman of Erris Tourism, shall be called the “Wild Atlantic Way Champions Cup”.
  3. The next and fourth Championship will be held on Sunday November 4th, 2018, and will be hosted by Carne Golf Links, Bellmullet, Co. Mayo.
  4. Subsequent year’s Tournament venues will be decided by The Wild Atlantic Way Golf Championship Committee.
  5. Only Clubs situated along the Wild Atlantic Way are eligible to participate, and only by invitation of the relevant officers of the Host club. Therefore, for 2018 by Captain Fergus Scanlon and Lady Captain Assumpta Guillfoyle.
  6. Each eligible Club Captain(s) invited should formally select and nominate a single team of four players to represent their Club in the Tournament. Players must be current members of the nominating club.
  7. Players may be Ladies or Gents, or any combination. Players must be over 18 years of age, and players must have current G.U.I or I.L.G.U. handicap.
  8. The 2018 Championship format will be a Mixed Four Person Team Scramble format. Future Tournament formats will be at the discretion of the Host Club.
  9. For the Scramble, each player must contribute a minimum of four tee shots during the round.  Handicap allowance will be one tenth of the combined total of all four players.
  10. The team with the lowest nett score will be crowned Champions for 2018, and then presented with the Wild Atlantic Way Champions Cup by Fergus Scanlon and Assumpta Guilfoyle.
  11. In addition to the Wild Atlantic Way Cup there will be many additional Nett prizes from the various generous sponsors. There will also be several Spot Prizes on the day and night.
  12. The Wild Atlantic Way Golf Championship Committee reserve the right to amend these condition from time to time as required, or as necessary.
